Americana Festival Goes Back To Music's Roots - July 5, 2008
State Journal writes: Organizers of the first Glenn Toyota Frankfort Americana Music Festival are expecting 1,000 Saturday at Happy Jack's Pumpkin Farm. "Our main goal is to bring the best of Americana music festivals to Kentucky," said Frankfort's Dr. Doug Howell, founder of Kentucky Blue Entertainment LLC along with Dan Atkins. Their company planned the festival "because we love the music," said Atkins, a musician with the Downtown County Band, one of the six groups to perform Saturday. "And we want to see more high-quality music presented in the community. Frankfort already has a really good music scene." Howell said they're trying "to group Americana acts together and promote roots music locally." "Music that is born out of America, has its roots in some way, shape or form here " blues, rock, folk, country, bluegrass, jug band, mountain music," Atkins said. "We will have the full spectrum."

13 Yr Old with Vision - May 6, 2007
Author: Future Thinkers My name is Jeri Katherine Howell. I am 13 years old and I’ve always been concerned and driven to protect our earth. The way I look at it, it’s the only place we have to love and go on with our lives and we need to take care of it while we can. The trees, baby birds chirping in early spring, all the amazing species on our planet, they are slowly being destroyed. When I first heard a song had been written by a local musician (Jeff Ellis) that was inspired by my own songwriting/singing, I was flattered. But what really hit me the most was when I first heard Change Our Ways. The lyrics spoke to me in such a way that I immediately agreed to sing this song. It was and still is such an honor. My whole life, I’ve wanted to change the minds of others by my words and actions. This was my opportunity to hopefully change the minds of my generation, generations before me, and generations to come. Life can be taken for granted, but I’m more than willing to show how delicate and vital our participation is in the care of our planet. Just like Jeff Ellis’s lyrics, ‘ I have hope! If we care there are solutions. We must change our ways, to stop the earth’s pollutions’. Go to itunes and buy Change our ways!
8th Grade Dynamo - March 6, 2007
The Anderson News:
"Winterjam 08 is coming to Eagle Lake. An 8th grader from Frankfort will be performing, but don't be fooled by her youth. Jeri Katherine Howell is mature beyond her years. She has been performing for about 3 years already. Her 1st stage performance was at the Bluegrass Festival in Frankfort at the age of 10. Jeri taught herself to play guitar and sing,........ It seems that she's a natural music prodigy. Her music style is Americana and she has a long list of accomplishments and performances."
